The city of Porto, known as the Capital of the North or the Invicta City, played a fundamental role in defending the ideals of liberalism in the battles of the nineteenth century.

It is the city that gave the name to Portugal. It was first designated Portus, later to become the capital of Condado Portucalense, or Portucale (Kingdom that gave the name to Portugal). It is also a city known worldwide for its wine, its historic center, listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
